Mitsubishi L200 limp mode, ecu required?

My faithful truck has let me down, it has begun to go into limp mode if allowed to idle for a minute or two. After diagnostics showed a nothing, the garage has been trying different parts from another truck to no avail, lucky for me there has been little cost yet as no parts purchased, however having changed all the likely parts there is no improvement so they think it is the ecu.

I have a couple of questions if anyone knows:

firstly the cost of a new one is eye watering apparently and he suggested I might as well let him break it if we have to go that way:eek::cry:

Secondhand ecu needs matching keys, anyone know of one?

Would a remapping company be able to check said ecu and reload software as standard? Could have a remap for a bit more poke I guess but not high on the list of priorities.

It's in the hands of a specialist japanese breaker/repairer locally.

STOP!!!!!

If it's going into Limp mode with MIL lit on the dash, there WILL be fault codes. Expect local garage is using a 'generic' code reader which is not seeing manurfacturer specific codes. Get it to Mitsubishi if only for a scan, and stop playing parts darts.

ECU's either work, or don't work.

What's MIL? It puts both traction control lights on and won't rev above 11-1200 if allowed to tick over for a minute or two.

Only the Mitsi workshop scanner will read and clear the ABS ecu. Without doing a global scan, its also impossible to say where the fault lies, since a serious ABS or TCU (if its an auto) fault will cause engine limp mode.

My 2008 one went into limp mode with check light on a few months ago. It drove very flat even though the check light would sometimes go off. Got a shot of a cheap code reader which showed map sensor fault . Removed plastic trim and found a pipe had popped off sensor. Stuck it back on with a cable tie and cleared code and been fine ever since.

suction control valve
egr valve
or is it common rail?if so maybe pressure sensor

It's common rail on the Di-D as far as I know, suction control valve been swapped for sure not sure what else but the fella isn't daft, he has built a business specialising in Jap motors, he breaks them, and repairs them, and is actually called Japmotor. He fits impreza lumps into vw transporters.

Wouldn't change ECU more likely a faulty sensor or wiring going to sensor, but I could be wrong. Any history of faults to point us in any direction?

No faults at all, it has been spot on. It likes heat to start, and it has stalled twice in 4 years that I can remember, that is it till a week or so back when this started.
