His first thought was EGR valve, so I am pretty sure he will have checked it. I will leave him be tomorrow but Friday if it's shitty weather I will pop in and have a coffee with him and see what he's done.

Any thoughts meantime will be appreciated.

 I'm off to sleep now, hope it helps

Hopefully its just the rod stuck in the turbo (WD40), how you're going to break the news to your mechanic, is another question?

Any lights coming on in the dash, how do you reset to get out of limp mode? It will take all of five minutes to make sure the rod is free in the turbo (or dump valve) even disconnect it to see if the symptoms change? Yours might be stuck in a different place, you need to keep an open mind to find the cause.

Just the traction control lights both coming on after idling for a little bit, then no power. get out of jail by turning ignition off and restarting, goes fine again till being left to idle.

Airbag light has always been on as far as I can remember.

My faithful truck has let me down, it has begun to go into limp mode if allowed to idle for a minute or two. After diagnostics showed a nothing, the garage has been trying different parts from another truck to no avail, lucky for me there has been little cost yet as no parts purchased, however having changed all the likely parts there is no improvement so they think it is the ecu.

I have a couple of questions if anyone knows:

firstly the cost of a new one is eye watering apparently and he suggested I might as well let him break it if we have to go that way:eek::cry:

Secondhand ecu needs matching keys, anyone know of one?

Would a remapping company be able to check said ecu and reload software as standard? Could have a remap for a bit more poke I guess but not high on the list of priorities.

It's in the hands of a specialist japanese breaker/repairer locally.

Might be worth checking fuel pressure, if fuel pressure is to high will go into limp mode (might cope with higher pressure at higher revs)
