Mlt627 transmission

Is it common for these transmissions to get really hot after a little road work? The plate near the gearstick gets pretty hot and it's like sitting next to a radiator!

Is there a filter etc that might need replacing? @acengineeing

depends what you call hot! 65-70 deg c would be normal operating temp I expect. all you can do is clean the radiator out well which on this machine is prone to blocking.

fan blows all the hot air off engine up the chassis to transmission anyway and there's not really anywhere for that air to go. you could try removing the cover under boom that sits over the transmission so the heat has somewhere to go.

Also just check the handbrake levers on the front axle. Common for the levers to seize up were they go in to the axle casing, just make sure they return to there stops or if its adjusted right the cable will hold the levers off the stops by approx. 1mm on each.

We left that plate off to create some air flow, it does help definitely.
