I believe that jersey royals are still grown on steep south facing slopes. The cultivations being carried out by implements pulled by a tractor winch on the top headland.
Had that last winter borrowed a JD 6600 that wouldn't start in the cold so used our David Brown that got stuck so winched it out with the field marshall.A big Fergie got stuck in the other day near us, and it defeated another big Fergie and a Deere trying to pull it out. Cue the local Field Marshall and winch, which pulled it straight out without breaking into a sweat. It got me thinking about ploughing by winch. Somewhere I have all the figures for steam ploughing in Gt grandad's notebook . I'll see if I can find them.
