We've bought the first gen 2018 XUV855m gator which hasn't had any issues, currently on 600 hours and 10k km. Havent heard many complaints here about gators, uncle has older 855d one with well over 1500 hours and 30k kms and hasn't had any issues either apart from normal wear and tear. Ours get used heavily with little sheep trailer behind a lot of the time and driving on dykes so needs to work quite a bit.

Dont buy a Gator, 4 wheel drive packed up which involved me having anger management issues when I got stuck this morning. 8 months old and I'm waiting for the next thing for it to let us down just when its needed....
Ours is an 855d. Genuinely rubbish. Belt drive is shite. Overall too heavy and cumbersome. Handbrake cable stretches continually, and is a biatch to get at to adjust.

The only reason we got one was that FIL was getting too stiff to get on and off a quad, and like having the doors- which are permanently off.

Buy a manual quad.

Done just over 3000hrs, 13 plate to be fair to it though.

Our got 900hrs and 8000 miles in 8 months. They just can't stick hard work. Ok for chugging round but not up for proper work, just look at the warranty they give you says it all about the faith in there product.
And before anyone says a jeep on big wheels will destroy the fields being wet clay and we also do a lot of rappa fencing

Thats a shame, i don't think i would hesitate to buy another to replace it when time comes though, it fits our needs perfectly without hiccups.

What would alternative be, something that will actually cope with what you are giving it? Polaris rangers or something like that? Neighbor farmer has a jimny on ag plates and big tires which they use, dont really know how thats holding up, but as thats actually a full size car it might be better?

Im very keen to get a Polaris out on demo to try.
The other option is a Jimny to take pressure off gator so it don't clock lots of miles when I'm just checking round. Have a fair loop in the winter that involves driving across other farmers land and don't want to make a mess. Most days a fence will need moving somewhere hence gator with rappa on back is perfect.
Can just leave home and get everything done.

I've got one friend who had a Polaris ranger about five years ago and it fell to pieces and another with a newer version about 18 months ago and it's been faultless. A long hard thrash up and down steep roads and tracks, three miles round trip every day and it looks a good advert for one. Basic price was under £13000 but comes with nothing and could have added another five grand of options easily, doesn't even come with mirrors as standard.

I have 1 and added over £5k of extras, very good especially with kids to have doors, do the school run more often in that than the pickup as passing between farms checking.

@Fendt516profi and @exmoor dave both have the new type too 👍🏻

It looks a good machine but I don't justify a new one and the experience of the older version up the road has put me off a second hand for now until there are some new types about

My dealer told me he wouldn’t sell me one with the older engine but he knew the Kubota engine was coming out so said wait a few months and have 1 of them 👍🏻💪🏼

Had a 2006 Honda 500 fa
From new. Was sold in 2018 with 7100 hrs on it. Had a new timing chain tensioner, chain, 2 carb rebuilds, several front ball joints. Was incredible
Did you find it drank fuel when it got older? When I had 1 in 2004 it was incredible and would do circa 85-90km per tank, after 7 years it was down to 50km/tank.
Cracking bikes though!
