Mower issues

Have the mower out this morning and its not cutting too well.
Put on a new set of blades but the problem persists. What is happening is it's leaving an uncut strip about 2 or 3 inches between discs 3 & 4 and similarly 5 & 6.
On inspection these are the discs that turn away from each other as opposed to turning in IYKWIM.

Any idea on the cause or solution? It's not a heavy crop and it worked ok last year.

It is getting on abit now I suppose 12 years or so but not a huge workload.
It is a Claas disco 300C . 7 discs with conditioner.

I know this might sound simple but have you got the correct blades on?!
My neighbour had a mower a few years ago and didn't realise that the discs had different blades ( LH & RH ones ) and was having same problem as you.

Not a new prob (n) - have this a lot with my JD1460 MOCO (& a mate with a Kuhn, same bar) - tis actually the draft made from the dics/blades flattening the grass b4 it gets to the blades, generally only happens in short crops & is significant with this mower as discs cut 500mm each - do not have this prob with my Kuhn 702 where disc is only cutting about 400mm..........have tried all above suggestions to no avail, just let the crop grow longer ;)

tried pitching it forwards on the top link, we had a kuhn gmd 44 what used to leave a strip up the middle between the outwards turning discs, just had to fine tune it on the top link until it corrected itself, on short grass it needed to be run right on its nose, then the air blast get directed to the root and doesnt lay the crop over

pig of a problem though, was cured by buying a drum mower

Had this problem yesterday on my tarrup 337. Problem was caused by grooves worn in between the bed protectors so the grass was being pushed forward before the blade could get to it. Blob of weld has cured the problem

Are the disk geting worn on the edge if so you can swap it with on the turns the oppesite way

Will try this before next outing. Thanks.

other thought is to lift the front cover, grass may be getting pushed over & not standing up before it gets to the knives.

I have a friend who lost an eye from a stone thrown by a mower without guards in the bad old safety cab days (no back window) so won't try this but it would probably work knowin Murphy's Law!

Mine all look ok but if the disc swap doesnt work I'll try this too. Have finished mine for this week , got some next door in a few days.

Hi

Yep had the same problem before trying to cut grass which was short and rank.

You dont need to fold all the cover back just enough so that the bottom of the cover does not bend the grass over too much before it is cut.

try going faster to fill the cutterbar up, light crops can be thrown forwards on top of uncut grass if not enough crop in front of cutterbar so go up a gear also the plastic conditioning tines if fitted can be worn (very slightly can cause hassle )

Our Kuhn has done that in lighter grass since it was new, not an uncut strip, but just a slightly longer stubble. It is just between the discs that are turning away from each other as opposed to towards each other. Its 100% in longer grass.
Kuhns are rubbish for that need to wind the toplink right in but doesn't always cure it.
