I see Shearwell are launching a new livestock record program/app. Anyone tried it? One of these monthly payments jobbies. Looks too expensive to me compared with the current Shearwell program.

There current one is good for cattle and basic sheep stuff but don’t like the medicine side of it.
Yes, I use the current one. It's grand enough, but could be more user friendly, so was excited for this new one. Might trial it, but I'm not convinced the cost is worth it for our small herd.

You've to enter each ministry tag manually which is a major drawback. Current system just scan it.

Perhaps I misunderstood it, but shearwell rep didn't argue when told him wouldn't be using it for that reason.

We can only manually input at the moment but always looking to improve, seems to be some sort of weakness with every system at the moment, good bit's and bad with every setup.

Hi Chae1,

I'm Jaz, working for Shearwell, I’m not sure if you’re farming cattle or sheep (or both) but if it helps to know:

- It is possible to add animals by scanning EID tags electronically with a compatible reader connected to the iPhone or Android version of the app.
- Cattle on farm can also be downloaded from BCMS or ScotEID, or uploaded from other software via a csv file.
- It is not yet possible to scan cattle passport barcodes – this will be available in the coming months.
- Sheep can be entered individually, but also as a batch of animals if you don’t want individual detail. Similarly their details can be uploaded via a csv file.

I hope this helps, if not please feel free to drop us an email at [email protected] for clarification or if you want any more advice.

Thanks!

Had the lady out few weeks ago, and she told us the above, so we will stick with the current work out pro and laptop for cattle.
It’s a good programme, but getting a little clunky now, so looking forward to when my farm works is sorted
