Narrower JCB headstock

Hi

Use a construction spec 531-70 for moving pallets and IBCs around at one of our sites. It has got the standard Q fit headstock, but this is wider than some of the pallets so can be a pain when loading and stacking.

Is there any way to change to a narrower headstock? It only ever has pallet forks on it.

Need the reach of this one so don't want to change to a smaller machine, and don't really want to have 2 machines there.

Cheers

I would do as suggested above, slide tines to one side and stack off one side.

However if you really want to, you could do away with the headstock completely you could do away with the headstock and mount the pivot bosses on the back of the pallet tine frame like they do on 360s.
James Silk Agri may be able to help.

Alternatively there are no end of companies that will supply a different style headstock such as cone and pin.

Find a manitou headstock for it, wont have that problem then. Q fit headstock is rubbish IMO!

Thanks for the replies everyone

I've got the forks as far over to the left as possible, but the right hand fork is up against the middle bracket. It could be put the other side but would this twist the headstock?

Picture below (not mine, mine only has single bracket in the middle)

@ACEngineering that's an idea but for the hassle of changing the headstock and forks I guess I'd be as well swapping this for a Manitou

Could you not get a narrower headstock made to fit your machine and tines, or fit a complete sideshift carriage instead seeing as its exclusively doing fork work? 2 improvements at once?

No it won't twist the headstock .

It must be very narrow pallets you're stacking to have bother with them . I've worked with Qfit for nigh on 30 yrs now and wouldn't have anything else

I would have said it will be fine with the tine the other side of the hook, unless your pallets are that heavy the back wheels are off the ground regularly?

You could change to the JCB tool carrier headstock - they are much narrower and should be a straight swap.

And then cut down a tool carrier pallet back plate or make a new set to your ideal width.

On Thursday 26th September, we’re holding a webinar for farmers to go through the guidance, actions and detail for the expanded Sustainable Farming Incentive (SFI) offer. This was planned for end of May, but had to be delayed due to the general election. We apologise about that.
