having owned/run these for 40 yrs i thought i knew all their little wrinkles.....but no 🙄......so once again i must plead my ignorance (shame) on this forum:bag:

my nash has no fuel pump:scratchhead:......it has a priming pump....and an injector pump......does the latter draw the fuel:scratchhead:

What’s the problem?

so.....tractor cut out on me so suspecting blocked tank gauze i took pipe off and blew down it...bubbling.......primed her back up with hand primer.....got good fuel thru......she started (y) ......but then died after a couple of minutes....repeat.....same thing

now i've just had exact same problem on my case cs....changed fuel pump and away we went......but i can't seem to find any sign of a fuel pump on this 885xl and there's no mention of one in the workshop manual:scratchhead:

the hand primer pump does leak when i've built up pressure so going to change that but i'm confused as to how she draws fuel:scratchhead:

Does the fuel pump draw the fuel and the primer just there for priming.

As just said, the injector pump draws the fuel, the primer is there to prime the system after a filter change or running out of fuel. Any tiny air leak into the system on the suction side will give problems. If you fill the tank to the brim you’ll be able to bypass the primer pump if you suspect it’s leaking air

I would suspect it has air ingress On a pipe/joint somewhere. Slowly builds a lump of air until it goes through the pump and dies.

could always get the grease out and grease each pipe until you've found the problem. Bit of a ball ache though.

I think the air is coming through the primer pump as it leaks when I prime it🤔

next headache is how the feck it comes off🙄

your 1494 had a separate mechanical fuel pump pushing the fuel through the filters to the injector pump.....i'd never heard of an injector pump drawing the fuel from the tank....quite unusual i'd suggest 🤔
Some older Nash's with tank behind the seat didn't have a lift/prime pump. Just brimmed the tank and opened the bleed screws on the filters and injector pump.
Could be water/condensation or diesel bug if two tractors have similar problems.
