I know. Goweresque
But I feel if “we” want to get our side of the story across then every single one of us, and our families all need to fill this in
Because you can be assured the Vegan lot will mobilise their many ranks to fill in their side too

Bumping this thread back up because it is so important we have our say and make our opinions heard. Every farmer should fill out this survey.

Bump.

Closes in 3 days.

As I pointed out on the Animal Rebellion thread last night, AR have ensured that many hundreds/thousands of their supporters have responded to this survey by providing easy to use guidelines on how to take part, what to say etc.

If anyone, like me, has missed the similar help from the various national bodies representing the livestock industry, you will just have to do your best. Here's the link:

Pleased to see that the CSA UK network have provided pointers for their members to reply - pasted below.

Does anyone have a similar prompt from any of the major Agricultural representative bodies that they could paste on here to encourage a last minute flurry ?

Get you voice heard in the National Food Strategy Consultation

Deadline 25th October
You may have heard that in August the Environment Secretary and Henry Dimbleby launched the Call for Evidence to inform the National Food Strategy.

The Call for Evidence is looking for ideas big and small from individual citizens, practitioners, businesses, NGOs, trade associations and any other organisations with an interest in what we eat and how it reaches our plates.

Henry and his team want to hear what is working. From government policies to simple practical things that make a difference in your community or your business. And they want you to send in the evidence that supports your ideas and suggestions.

The Call for Evidence will be open until 25th October. You can read the Call for Evidence and submit your responses here: https://consult.defra.gov.uk/agri-food-chain-directorate/national-food-strategy-call-for-evidence/.
Here are some of the benefits of CSA you could use in a response:
Social
· Bring people together and build community in a safe and healthy space
· Reduces social isolation and improves physical and mental health
· Encourages healthy eating and makes it fun
· Keeps it local and builds local pride
· Restores the connection between food, countryside and the seasons
Economic
· Provides a steady income for farmers
· Shares the risks of farming with the consumer, so increasing awareness of the true value of food
· Often acts as hubs for other local businesses (e.g. honey producers, breadmakers, craftspeople etc) who can sell produce through them
· Increases food security by increasing the amount of food grown locally
· On average, CSAs employ 10 times the number of employees per hectare than the UK agricultural average and generate 10 times the income per hectare than the UK agricultural average
· Keeps money within the local economy
Environmental
· CSAs care for and in many cases improve the environment/habitats
· Short supply chains keep waste and food miles to a minimum
· Low or no packaging
· Increases awareness of the reasons why we should eat locally produces seasonal food (and so mitigate against climate change)
· Have a low carbon footprint
· Provide havens for wildlife
· Improve soil health
This is a once in a generation opportunity to shape our food system for the future.

done but apart from space at the end for a rant about the need for regen ag. you need to down loads of info to fill out the survey. the vegans are better prepared than us (but if they don't come up with a plan to fertilise their crops they'll be going hungry.)

In ten years the population in UK will reach nearly 70 million. I am really interested to see how they are going to be fed. The way it’s going as long as they can eat concrete and bricks they should eat well

Judging from the interest shown in this process on respective forums, I would guess that there were over 1000 responses from the vegan movement and less than 200 from UK agriculture.

8 members of the panel from the food industry.
7 from farming and the environment (who I consider to be on the same side of the fence)
Looks like the 8 academics will have the casting vote.
