Hi @choochter this is our first year with the Hereford cross. We do finish animals ourselves but our main aim is conservation grazing (we contract graze for various organizations). We have only been sending 6/7 year old steers to ABP (so take a massive hit due to age and grid). These have been pure Belted Galloway and are roughly 360-400 dead weight O+/R 4L/H. They are on lowland heath (rough grasses, heather, gorse) in summer and chalk grassland in winter with very late cut hay.
We are sorting the herd so we can kill animals earlier (30months) and have some contacts with local butchers. We hope the Hereford crosses will grow faster. I am thinking of introducing a WBS to cross with the cows to retain the females and put them to the Hereford to maximise the hybrid vigour.
I always enjoy the photos of your stock - thanks James
