The Cowford Herd is from Perthshire with a Lincolnshire Herd Manager and Family! The competition was photograph based so not entirely a true picture of the animals performance I agree but I had to put it up as it was good publicity for the Breed!! Besides that Lincoln Red Cattle live cheap, are docile and produce good offspring crossed with many breeds including continentals. The way to go in these 'No Deal' Times!!

...........the first 46 volumes of The Lincoln Longwool Flock Book :). It's put me well on the way to a full set - still a few missing from the 'wilderness years' of the late 60's/early 70's but the early ones are full of so much history of the halcyon days of wool.

Plenty of flocks with 400, 500, 600 ewes - biggest flock I've seen so far is Henry Dudding's....

..1403  - just imagine setting out to clip that lot with a set of hand shears :woot:

Many thanks to @drk, hope you've had a good Christmas and have a Happy New Year.

Not to mention keeping track of them without EID! Few better places for those flock books to end up, I'm sure 👍

@yellowbelly Fabulous!! But i am BIASED. Can you screen shot the Biscathorpe Flock as I might have a surprise for you in coming days!! We had an old chap work for us once whose grandfather was one of the shepherds there. Long before that 1st copy many fine churches in the wolds and on the heath were built on the profits of some of those flocks. I urge any of the readers of this thread to come to our lovely county if you are interested in seeing some fabulous buildings.

P.S. Did you see who one of the publishers was? Ruddocks closed there shop in High Street Lincoln this year!

In true pantomime season fashion, 'your wish is my command'...............

That's their entry in Volume 1. A lot of history there.
Their are no double digit flock numbers left that are still active. We recently resurrected Mrs YB's great grandfather's flock number (first registered in 1897, Volume 6) to transfer all our pure English (no infusion of Australian blood) lines into. We still graze sheep on that farm. As far as I know, Flock 263 is the oldest number still active.
