At last and after six years she is, I understand, in Oman on the way to be home with her Husband Richard and her 7 year old Daughter

I can't imagine seeing my children and Gabriella missed her Mum for 6 of her 7 years of life

Hmm , not very grateful was she .

She looked well mind ......
I thought much the same,. The one thing that leapt out to me a few days ago was that she was employed by the Reuters foundation whose sole purpose is to campaign for press freedom. personally I wouldn't want to set foot anywhere in the middle East with that sort of connection. She had previously worked for the BBC World Service, who are persona non grata in most non democratic Countries, add to that travelling on an Iranian passport and its no wonder its taken 6 years to secure her release. She seems to be very grateful to her local MP who will have had no part in the negotiations but scathing of those who did.

Reuters / press freedom. Really? Most people who go around telling people about freedom are obsessed with control.

The poor girl has had 6 years of continuous bombardment from her kidnappers of nonsense that it is the UK’s fault and she would be home tomorrow but for their provocation.
Every kidnappper does this to keep up the hostage’s hopes of imminent release, they have one fear and that is the hostage kills themselves, sincce thatr would mean they no longer have a pawn.
I have spoken to several kidnap victims and close family members, mostr go through this trauma where the victim believes that their fammily and government never did enough, some sadly cling to this belief forvever.
I have been there!

I’ve worked in Iran as a control systems engineer on gas pipeline compressor stations. Needs must and all that. Didn’t even get overtime or danger money, but probably made a hash of it like no saboteur could ever have done!
I really think though that you’d have to question your own sanity to risk going there as an investigative journalist.
I was warned before I went that the FO would do sweet FA to help me if things went wrong. I was flown in and out by Russians based in Dubai using an old Yak40 as a migrant worker shuttle bus. Insurance? Forget it.
I really can’t understand folk who take a known risk then bleat about it forever when things go wrong.
As it was I was treated very well.

I don't think there is anyone on here who has more experience in these matters than you. Not many people have had a close relative kidnapped.

I too thought she was being rather harsh blaming our politicians for the time it took for her to be released, maybe they could have done more, maybe not but ultimately it was up to her kidnappers when she was released,
It was politicians that landed her in jail and it was politicians that could have got her out anytime in the last six years. So yes, I would be bitter.

No it was not politicians who jailer her, it was the Iranian Revolutionary Gurd. This lunatic bands who are the De Factor rulers of Iran. This jailing was not just about the money, it was about International sanctions and Nuclear deals.
Nazanin sadly was very unwise to assume that it was safe to visit her family and it may well be past writing that had raised a flag against her name. I believe that if she had not gained such a following in the media it is likely they would have quietly let her go far earlier. A woman has very little value in Arab eyes. I will not criticise Richard as my immediate reaction was just the same, having this western belief in “ christian “ type values applied across religions.

Iranians aren’t Arabs, they are Persian. I worked with two highly qualified process design engineers, both of whom were women. They certainly weren’t undervalued or disrespected. Both were hard working professionals who could hold their own in a male dominated industry. Considering the sanctions they endured they made a decent job of it with meagre resources. Sure enough they had to abide by religious rules, veils, praying five times a day. I actually found the daily conversation there more respectful and generally polite all round…… as long as you didn’t rock the boat. As a Christian I found more common ground with Islamists than I do with atheists. Same root really. Different branches. But only too many people willing to provoke conflict and argument. Needn’t be so.
