even a bag of "Portland cement" has a lot more than just Portland cement many additives and as mensioned above pfa ggbs ground granulated blast furnace slag, pfa pulverised fly ash and many more
(from the uni lab where the OPC was nothing but Ordinary Portland Cement)
any one order "pump mix" regardless of what they are doing? we had 8 cube for a non pump job the other day and they accidentally/automatically sent pump mix < the same as our last order and it went down really well nice finish easy to tamp up and we don't find this particular company's concrete the best but was very happy with this load. so debating ordering it every time from now on

Anybody been pouring concrete recently. Fancy doing some tommorow around house but it can be down to 4 degrees tommorow night, is it risky? Been told ideally that 7degrees is lowest night temp for the first night!
Shouldn’t concrete less than 2 degrees, you’ll be fine with 4
Ideal, thanks. It’s only a 900mm path around outside of extension. Holding back for better weather to pour a slab by backdoor!!
I think the differece is PAV includes air entraining additive. This protects the concrete from frost damge especially if deicing salts are to be used.Never used a PAV mix before. Is it better than RC40 outside?

Its should be whin stone whin dust and Portland cement you mean, or some very rare specail to me volcanic rock i have in my quarry that makes very nice concreteConcrete should be sand gravel and Portland cement nothing else
You’re half right. Air entrained concrete has little pockets of air in so when you get freezing weather water expands inside the pockets instead of cracking the concrete. I was taught though not to use air entrained concrete anywhere there was risk of grit salt getting on to it
That said, happy to be told otherwise just what I was taught
Half right is probably good for me
Found this on a concrete construction web page , which mentions protection against salt ?
The primary benefit of entrained air in hardened concrete however is the resistance it offers to freeze-thaw damage and scaling caused by de-icing salts or chemicals. ... The small, entrained air bubbles serve as reservoirs or expansion chambers to relieve these pressures.
