New electric connections

I have been give quotation of £25,000 for a new electric connection on a new build.
I have been told the polo which is less the 3 meter is already on maximum capacity supplying other existing houses. Therefore would need to go 150m away to the next nearest polo to get connection. Is this correct? What else could I do? Help

Welcome to the world of privatised energy companies. May sound romantic to be "off grid" but would any future buyers think the same?

Did they at least warm you to sit down before they gave the price? Does the £25k include vat?

Unfortunately, if the nearest point is at capacity then you don't have much wiggle room. You could try talking to an Independent Connection Provider, although they are mostly interested in larger projects. You could look at organising some of the contestable work yourself, but it's unlikely that you will see a significant reduction in costs.

Would the electrical companies be ok with me arranging certain work my self.
Anyone know of a solar power installation in Halifax West Yorkshire?

If you've had a formal quotation then they should have included details of what parts are "contestable" and "non-contestable", contestable works can be done by any NERS registered ICP, non-contestable work can only be done by the network operator for your area. It may be possible to negotiate arranging some works yourself, such as any trenching required on private ground. Anything requiring streetworks or traffic control will have to be done by licenced streetworks contractors & you will be unlikely to save anything there.
