New farm, the journey begins!

Well i got there today, cattle still on the place, a 22,500 litre tank missing, fun times!!! 900k not enough for this mob...still need more pennies.

Also i got an automated text message from bank to say loan was settling, but that was at start of booked settlement, i then had to email and call conveyensor and bank to see if it was actually mine, finally got hold of someone to confirm....they don't call and congratulate you anymore, or even send an email confirmation??? Im at odds with modern day customer service.

42 likes, im blown away, much appreciated, many pics to follow!!

This is the only shed thats staying, the new cattle yards and sheep yards will wrap around part of this, and will be running power over to here, for lights and sheep handler, as i normally work there may be some night stock work going on.

Have a look at this hovel, my attitude to infrastructure is very different, i never can not justify having the right stuff if for 1 cow or sheep need same stuff 100 cows or 500 sheep. I bought this place with budget to do 2 new sheds, new yards, yard, some fencing, amd running power to where needed as supply is central to yard.

Imagine doing cattle work in this...

New House will take a bit more saving.

The tin roof will be the new fence for backyard as it will be temporary. To enclose for cat and snake proof.

I have an excavator coming to bury the old dairy and shed.

Why can’t you leave the old buildings up? Are you still mining?

Why can’t you leave the old buildings up? Are you still mining?

I work from home for the mine, cant travel due to covid, i wont be going back.

Old buildings are useless and in the road to put up new ones, if i went for a different loaction the cost of gravel would be huge, i am trying to utilise the existing yard and hard stand areas.

How many acres and what’s the end goal Ant ?

157 acres, all useable. So an expansion for me.

End goal, to be healthy and happy.

Ive leased the dirt out for 1st 2 years at 200 an acre while i build infrastructure and work. Plus cattle market is hexy atm, the barley price is crap, and paddocks need levelling before i can plant accurately enough for cropping.

When i take over i will farm cattle and store lambs, and renovate 10ha a year, and oversow the rest and try clean up weeds.

Its volcanic dirt as its in a volcano district.

800mm annual rainfall, a bit drier than Portland.

Some pics of land, flat as a sh*t carters hat.

Oh and 3km from centre of town, that was a big draw card, country living but if i forget the milk no big deal to grab.

The house is fully renovated inside so will do me a few years till new one built, i am enclosing the carport and painting house, general tidy up, rip out old trees etc, will knock up a basic bbq area in back yard 4 x 4m so i can get back to doing more relaxing outside.

On Thursday 26th September, we’re holding a webinar for farmers to go through the guidance, actions and detail for the expanded Sustainable Farming Incentive (SFI) offer. This was planned for end of May, but had to be delayed due to the general election. We apologise about that.

Farming and Countryside Programme Director, Janet Hughes will be joined by policy leads working on SFI, and colleagues from the Rural Payment Agency and Catchment Sensitive Farming.
