It was the first NH baler we had.previously had a Allis Roto baler, then an international square baler, the NH was was a dream to use compared to the IH. the Knotters (knife to cut string must be kept sharp) very rarely did not tye and was a lot faster and made a better bale.

Hello everyone,

Who had, or has one of these?

I remember that particular model of NH conventional baler had a bad name for reliability, was it this one?
We had one of those , was before my time but the older generation say it was a good baler if a bit slow
I think the bad model was the 268 we had one of those too , renowned for making banana bales
Grandpa kept it a year and traded it in for a 274 for very little cost

My father had a 68 until quite recently for his few acres. It was a good machine. He now has a 376 (I think).
I think it says a bit that he worked most of his life for Claas and doesn't have any of their kit in his hay making armoury!

I'd like to see it working in anger then decide, if its in your budget.
As you know a few bales in the yard wont be the same .......

Still use a NH68 super here doing about 500 bales a yr - rarely misses a bale! Not quick but as its old can allow for that - if you've found a tidy one, don't have thousands to do I would give it a go

Just on the off chance, I was trying to put a value on our 68 and came across this old thread.

If anyone happens to be looking for a genuine example, ours is for sale as I need some shed space. Originally bought by my grandfather for hay which has become a matter of a few acres for the last 30 odd years! I haven’t used it for 3/4 years as we’ve gone to big bales but it has always been put away greased up and with a couple of bales of straw put through it to clear out any hay. It’s always been reliable but obviously we’ve used it considerately given its age. If your a hero with 200+hp it probably won’t last long but if you’re happy to plod on like we have, I see no reason for it to give you any bother.

Open to offers and if anyone is half serious I’ll pull it out of the shed and get some pictures.

Located on the Devon/Somerset border about 10 minutes away from the M5 junction 26.
