I have a 6080 2010 with 9500 hours on it. When we went at silage this year, the tractor was on the harvester and every time the tractor came under a heavy load I was getting a noise from the engine. The noise sounded like a turbo on its way out, almost like blades touching the housing. A mechanic listened to it before we parked up and stopped using it.
When he remove the turbo the mechanic said that it wasn't too bad and he had seen alot worse. He couldn't see any damage and thought it was a small bit notchy but very little float on it but we couldn't see anything else obvious like delaminated air intake or filter. Also engine used some oil and it never does normally and the intercooler had a small bit of oil in it.
We got it reconditioned and they said bearings were not great. It was very smooth after the reconditioning. It was reinstalled and ran fine. But again when we were on a heavy load, the same noise happened again. We never had this noise before silage and now it is there all the time under a heavy load.
On a side note, just before silage, we discovered the exhaust manifold was cracked all around. it was a two piece manifold and the crack was in the front two cylinders so we only replaced the front piece. Could this have anything to do with it. Even with the noise, the tractor is not down in power in anyway but we can't keep going with it as something is not right with it. Anyone have anything similar happen? is it still a turbo issue?
TIA
