The oil lubricates the hub bearing though, I wouldn't risk it that far, it will be easier to trailer it home.

Every time you press the foot brake it will activate 4wd and snatch the drive shaft, that could do even more damage.

Good point about 4wd being engaged. However it’s across farmland. Is there a 4wd clutch fuse ?
you could do with a hitch mounted crane like they use for skidding wood on the 3 point links ,someone I know made one to recover a self propelled forager he lifted the steering axle off the ground and towed it away, another option is a loadall lifting the front in the air.

I think removing planet gears will be easiest

Have axle off. A fair bit of backlash turning the prop going into the diff. Who knows what the acceptable amount is

however more pressing anyone know how to get this apart ?

we are pulling on the 5 hole cast housing and it slides a bit on the splined shaft and then stops dead

If I remember rightly you've still got to get the UJ off the other side, there's a circlip on there holding the shaft in. Some people split axle from the stabiliser bar to give you enough room, I haven't tried, splitting the UJ is just easier.

If you pm me your email address I'll send you the service bulletin.
