New Holland workmaster 50, shutoff fuel problems

Hi good folks, we have a NH workmaster 50, 4wd, that shutoff while Bush hogging. Acts like fuel starvation, plenty of fuel, have changed the main and checked the pre-filter, with no apparent clogs present. Need help figuring out the bleed process (manual is worthless). Have seen elsewhere on the forum regarding lossening the bleed valve on the main filter (check), but pumping the small push hand pump seems to not be moving fuel at all (we also have a 70hp tractor of the same sort, that pump is rock solid, this one feels as if it is moving only air).
Suggestions??
