If you wanted to tip farmers over the brink then I'd argue it's very well "thought out", going through what some would call 'a struggle session' then throwing out a dissolving lifesaver
hard to disagree with this, certainly has that feel

So is paying unemployment to those for whom it is a lifestyle choiceSfi is morally wrong for taxpayers
Not sure that’s a worthwhile comparison but I agreeSo is paying unemployment to those for whom it is a lifestyle choice
Is it any worse than large estates getting £80 and acre for doing absolutely nothing under BPS? I'm not sure what the solution is for financial support but it was BPS and it isn't SFI.
new range rover, new skis, nice holiday etc etc ……. it wasn’t a subsidy ever given to farmers ( they just pretended they did !) , it was a subsidy for landowners and there is no way you can justify that to tax payers, it REALLY did take the pee ……. as a landowner (who farms) at least i can be honest enough to admit that
Except for you seem to not understand that farming is subsidised in thei have to EARN those profits by providing the tax payer with something in return for their payment, i have to farm land, to get the best from it i have to produce BOTH food and public good / natural capital
I got my BPS dole cheque just for being wealthy enough to own some land ! - many of the richest people in the UK got theirs as well, they didn’t need to farm anything or provide any public goods whatsoever
BIG difference……. like Huge difference !

Ah but those on the good arable land probably won't go for the high payment options.Sfi is morally wrong. Taking the old bps pot and distributing it so arable farmers on the best land get £800 ha while the hill farmers on hard land get £10 ha is absolutely ridiculous.
There’s plenty of hill farmers including myself would love to have some arable land. It defies description to me what’s going onAh but those on the good arable land probably won't go for the high payment options.
That is what the pension funds want to doA certain person on here who will remain nameless told me in August that the better land should be used for production and the hill land or marginal land should be used for offset.
Except for you seem to not understand that farming is subsidised in the
EU and the USA which is the main setter of agricultural commodity prices.
BPS was fine in principle as it helped all farmers whether large or small irrespective of their farming type, the crass mistake was not capping the payments so large landowners took the taxpayer for a ride, SFI is now far worse as it is now benefitting large landowners yet again but this time at the expense of smaller farmers!!!new range rover, new skis, nice holiday etc etc ……. it wasn’t a subsidy ever given to farmers ( they just pretended they did !) , it was a subsidy for landowners and there is no way you can justify that to tax payers, it REALLY did take the pee ……. as a landowner (who farms) at least i can be honest enough to admit that
sfi is somewhat better in that respect but stil missed opportunity - the key to ag subs is making sure FARMERS get them not landowners (investors) it’s not easy to achieve that however
the cap is a good idea in that respect BUT this inconsistency and moving of goalposts really is not on when we are making often life changing business decisions
And a damm sight less costs & restrictions, a level playing field is all a true farmer needs!countries like the Ukraine set prices - absolutely no subs there
I have always called for a level playing field for UK farmers but alas it has become rather bumpy turf now?And a damm sight less costs & restrictions, a level playing field is all a true farmer needs!
Is Ukraine currently being subbed by EU intervention buying?countries like the Ukraine set prices - absolutely no subs there
Ukraine is virtually unregulated so why should they need subsidies?countries like the Ukraine set prices - absolutely no subs there
Any arable land is good compared to hill landAh but those on the good arable land probably won't go for the high payment options.
