New mig welder

It turns out that the portamig welder can't be fixed so I'm on the lookout for a new one. Needs to be about 300 amp single phase on a 32amp plug and also have to put up with life on a farm.
Any suggestions welcome, I'll be at Lamma on Wednesday I hope so will have a good look at some there.

We run a boc kempe. A superb smooth welder. Ours is 3 phase though.

Technical ark services at York! their own Tecark welders have one of the better duty cycles,but they also manufacture Oxford machines amongst others !

They also make the portamig that's probably cost me somewhere around £100 per 15kgs of wire and is now knackered so not a happy welder

Are there many single phase like that though Dave? Can't find many that go up to 300 amp as most top out at around 200-250

Yes true. I suppose anything industrial will be 3 phase

Oxford i-mig 410 compact here, the 3 phase version tho. (they do a single phase) I happy with mine only put a couple of spools wire through it so far.

Got a new gen Oxford, the biggest 3ph one, absolutely cracking bit of kit.

Mate just got a little 210 1ph one the other day, he asked me to go and set it up for him and gave a go, really nice for the price.

I think they are great value, if my older (original) Oxford , ever gives up the ghost, then I won't hesitate to buy another of these new gen ones

Going to pick the old welder up today, I'll see what's up with it. The Oxford welder looks a lot like the portamig. I'm not sure about buying the same again after having so little welding out of the old one, maybe I just had a bad one??

Right, transformer has gone in the old one and not worth repairing. The have offered me a Lincoln electric. From what I've seen they have a good name and they have some happy customers with them. They can get me one to try if I want to so we'll see what's at Lamma

I can thoroughly recommend a welder from Phil Weeks Welders in Bath. Made in house with great back-up. The top rated single phase machine will weld with 100% duty cycle @ 180 amps and will go up to 250 amps. I bought one having used them at a friends engineering works.

I have a 180 sealey job for light stuff and a Lincoln 300 for serious work, No comparison, The Lincoln is smoother and easier to use even on thin stuff.
