Am looking at building a new workshop. Plans aren't definite yet, but it's going to be approx 60ft x 40ft... Just wondering if anybody had any suggestions or photos they wanted to share to help me with setup and general ideas. Thanks

I'm doing exact same thing at present - looking at 60 x 40 x 15ft eaves.
Roller shutter in front gable end and possibly mezzanine floor in back bay.
Some of the shed manufacturers have good websites with photo galleries and even CAD programs which are very useful to
visualise end result.

Mezz floor in one bay is a good idea if you want to have an office or bait room or something in the workshop. Adds a good % to your floor space at minimal cost. Its good as you can set any machines or tool benches etc underneath where headroom is not required.

Power float floor a must. Lots of plugs including 3 phase, air line ring too. Heater and we have a mezz floor for storage, with a tool store underneath.

I have recently finished fitting a mezzanine floor into a two year old 30' x 60' shed with double door fronts which has become the main workshop. I managed to got my hands on some industrial racking and using the added floor space as a store for filters, bolts and what not. I have found that with all the bits and bobs store above, the ground floor is clear. The space under the mezzanine has been gated and has become a handy and secure quad bike storage.

The end bay on the shed has an inspection pit which can be closed off with railway sleepers plus a RSJ beam spanning the 30' with a block and tackle for lifting out engines etc.

The biggest mistake I made however was lighting. I was a bit cheap on lights and had to replace most of them with proved a bit costly.

What about putting your doors down the side rather then in the end. Yes more expensive but worth it. That way you could have 4 15ft x 40ft work bays with say a trailer in one bay, a tractor in another etc, each with a 15 foot roller shutter door. Nothing worse then pulling a machine through the door and leaving it dismantled for a couple of days or weeks and not been able to get anything else in past it.

Wad thinking of 20ft bays, one door gable end and one not so big on the side... It's alot of money to spend that's Wht I'm open to opinions & suggestions...

If your budget allows have a look at composite panels for the walls and roof with a couple of blocks high around the base, A very easy way of insulating the whole building. Don't bother with windows or skylights as it complicates things and provides access for thieves. Lots of lighting and a really good steel personal door with a Chubb type lock for maximum security.

Have a look at www.agriculture.com always lots of "shop" ideas, the yanks do love a posh workshop. Our workshop is , like many an evolution and not what I would want if starting fresh. 20foot bays and a power floated floor are absolute minimum, lots of plugs and a ring airline, along with loads of loads of lighting.A mezzanine seems a good use of space to incorporate lots of spares storage and a bait room, office type space.
I would love to build a proper workshop .
