NFU expresses concern over RPA’s approach to its current remapping exercise

The NFU has today expressed concerns about the RPA’s approach to its current remapping exercise, outstanding payments and poor communication with farmers as we head towards the 2017 payment window opening in December.

NFU Vice-president Guy Smith has urged the RPA to 'up its game' ahead of the inevitable increase in communications resulting from the current remapping exercise, and at the same time encourages NFU members to check their updated mapping in the coming weeks.

Off topic, I know.....but why are they re mapping ? Haven't they already re mapped at least once ?
It's not as if the old OS maps were inaccurate.
All this to scrape a few squid here and there......meanwhile, elsewhere, the Mafia diddles the EU out of millions...:banghead::banghead:

in order to comply with EU Commission rules that all land data held on the system is no more than three years old by 31 October 2017

see:

updates to digital maps on the Rural Payments service

The Rural Payments Agency (RPA) is making a number of updates to digital maps, starting in August 2017 through into autumn 2017. For more information on these updates please see the RLE1 page.

To view your individual land parcels, go to: www.ruralpayments.service.gov.uk/. From the ‘Business overview’ screen, click ‘Land’ then ‘View land’.

Just logged in to see how the new mapping is going, and finally after 2 yrs however many months. One of my fields is finally as it should be with correct crop shown, but (you knew there’d be one didn’t you) there’s now no eligible hectares even tho by the RPA’s own rules there should be !.
The other field next door is still all wrong and is growing exactly the same thing as 2015 and the same thing as it’s neighbor !.

Unknown if these changes are to do with the new mapping or the appeal I lodged 9 weeks ago last Monday !.

My patch must have been remapped half a dozen times over the years from the IACS to present day ......is it just me ...but each time I'm remapped all my fields seem to become ever so slightly smaller .....can't recall 1 occasion where I've gained anything .....remarkable! !

This spring they removed a load of the PIF I had updated at the start of BPS so hadd to tell them to put them back and the key was the word permanent

I've had big chunks of the farm remapped. Still another third with changes pending. PIFs removed & land uses changed. 3 fields changed to permanent pasture despite obvious continuous arable cropping. This is going to play merry hell with my Higher Tier CS application & it looks like I've got to resubmit all my RLE1s sent in over the last 3 years :banghead:

I had no problems trying to log into my account to check maps.

As an aside I checked my BPS / DEFRA on their website, and when I clicked view recent claims only my 2016 one came up not 2017. Happily there is a message on there confirming that I submitted my 2017 one on the 2nd of May, but it seems strange not to be able to see it.

Well RPA are remapping me and have amalgamated fields.
We are 90% arable and despite the fields being individual many don't have physical boundaries anymore. So I now have one "field" that is 100ha big !!!! Despite it actually being 5 fields.
With a stone track down the middle, a proper hedge in two field boundaries and a ditch for about 1/4 mile
Doh
What a shambles.
Although I appear to have bucked the trend somewhat and gained 0.1ha !!!!

Furthermore...... In one grass field we have a fenced sheep pen by the gate.... It's now become a distinct new field all on its own.
Ridiculous

We've had an invoice for £102, backdated to 2015. So whoopee do, I guess 2016 and 2017 are still to come.
They've scrambled over the whole farm and changed about half the parcels. Strangely, the steeper grazing land has shrunk and woodland expanded by a similar amount. Funny that. A long ditch has acquired a parcel number all of its own and is labelled PG 01

I'm losing the will to live with this lot. No problems with SFP at all.

Just opened my remapping pack from RPA. Loads of work to sort out what they think is wrong on over half my fields. Most annoying bit is I only have 10 days to do it or they assume they are correct. Only just had a conformation of my objections sent 6 months ago to mapping changes they incorrectly made before 2017 application!

Exactly the same here. My 2017 claim isn't on there, but have a message saying it was received 14th may.

had a look and weve had3 seperate messages this last fortnight
1 temporary sheep pen in corner of field now a new field
2 temporary muck hill in arable field now hard standing now sown with wheat
3 arable field grown in size by .24 ha
4 arable field that has been in various splits of arable and temp grass now split int two with 4ha that was barley 2017 now pp
5 field thats34ha and a next door field of 7ha that has a hedge for 80% of their joint boundary and has been farmed as two seperate fields for over 30 years under me now amalgamated
6 various small pp fields now have several small areas as track ,hard standing, rivers and streams of which we have none and most have been altered in size some up some down.
looks like they are only 3/4 of the way through as one side of the farm hasnt been altered at all yet!!
Think I will wait until theve done all fields or at least until this years is in the bank, to be fair the claimed acres havnt altered by more than .2 of a ha overall as yet but the change from arable to pp is going to cause most trouble as seems we will have to apply to plough out

I did the same as you and got a bit worried when I couldn't see this years claim even though they had acknowledged receiving it then I clicked on "Apply for BPS" and this years claim is there. Presumably it doesn't move to "past claims" until after validation or payment.

My neighbour and I have had to place marker posts on our boundary after remapping amalgamated various fields that have never changed ownership since time immemorial. In addition we had to submit (at our expense, obviously) RLE1 forms to resolve the mess.
The boundaries had partial hedges and ditches - not enough, white topped fence posts are now required to avoid confusion.

On Thursday 26th September, we’re holding a webinar for farmers to go through the guidance, actions and detail for the expanded Sustainable Farming Incentive (SFI) offer. This was planned for end of May, but had to be delayed due to the general election. We apologise about that.

Farming and Countryside Programme Director, Janet Hughes will be joined by policy leads working on SFI, and colleagues from the Rural Payment Agency and Catchment Sensitive Farming.
