NFU hustings

When you vote in a British election it is exactly the same way as the NFU. The elected representatives of the conservative party or the NFU decide who their leader is going to be.

I made my views very clear to both NFU council delegates who best would represent the farmers in my patch.

I’m surprised there are so few replies given the important changes that are happening politically over the next few years, all of which will have a massive impact on UK farming. Say what you will about the NFU but without them I’d wager things will be a whole lot worse over this time.

I’d also heard Minette B was pretty much a foregone conclusion.

As a friend, so possibly some bias, but I’d also say Stuart Roberts is an excellent candidate. Arable and livestock farmer, organic, sells majority of produce direct so knows consumers, past history working in the higher levels of the civil service so knows government and in the meat industry at a high level with ABP. would have thought this covers a large chunk of UK agriculture.

Unfortunately, such is the way of the forum now that if you put your head above the ramparts and dare to praise or defend the nfu the usual suspects then attack you, it's a real shame, considering just how many branch chairmen are regular posters here.
But nfu discussion seems to always end up personal &/or nasty.

I’m not a member anymore as you know but why are you surprised at so littie interest in a election that a regular member / farmer can’t vote in ?

If farmers could vote I suspect their interest would be much higher and debate a lot more lively

I'm surprised you're surprised Clive, nfu talk never seems to say friendly for long on the forum.
It's a real shame, because something like the nfu should be able to be discussed in a constructive but friendly manner.
It doesn't help that some of the worse attackers are so misinformed/ ignorant of nfu process or the work the NFU do, it's frankly staggering at times.

That’s just a cop out,put yourself forward you might be surprised by how much support you have

I don't want support, I want to run a successful farming business and give my kids opportunities that were afforded to me, and that involves spending some time with them.

I am willing to fill out a ballot to decide who represents me at the head of our trade organisation.

What a load of bullpoo! If you're not man enough to stand for election then you shouldn't come on here complaining about the system.
there is no reason why any farmer is not entitled to complain about the system even if they are not NFU members for the simple reason that the NFU claim to represent farmers so what they say affects farmers

Its the same with people from other countries having a view on Brexit, they are perfectly entitled to express that view because it can and most likely will affect them

Clive offered to host a NFU forum or some such ? and the NFU declined
they don't want NFU members that don't spend all their spare time at meetings having a say or a vote
they are frightened of the modern world

Why don't you just go to your local county meeting if you aren't happy about the way things are being done? I think it's all too easy to complain from the sidelines. Get involved and have your say.
