Caleb Roberts?

After several recommendations, I moved from NFU to Caleb Roberts several years ago, getting better cover than the NFU for 25% less.
Since then I’ve had another broker tried to steal my business, as well as the NFU trying to get it back twice. The other broker was very similar, quoting from the same Ins companies, so I stayed with CR.
The first time the NFU tried, they didn’t even come back to me as they were so far out. This Spring they came in with a quote of £5500, using my schedule of cover from my existing Ins company, compared to £3200 through Caleb Roberts.

I have had a couple of claims, which CR handled for me, and about which I have no complaints.
In short, I can’t recommend them highly enough.👍

Havent read all the replies, but get straight onto your local branch who's issued the renewal, tell em you're not happy. Be amazed the special buttons they can press...

We had that at home when, after forever with the NFU, we had a cheaper quote from an eager young broker. Lo and behold, the NFU agent found that a mistake had been made and they could drop £5k off the premium.🤔

I’d have walked on principle right then, but partnerships and all that…

NFU insurance is it a premium product?
My renewal has come in over 15% increase yoy which feels excesssive.
Had a quote off a competitor for substantially less but
the main difference is NFU is the actual insurer where as
the alternative is a broker through a 3rd party.
Been with NFU a long time what are other peoples experiences?
I've not read responses or been insured with nfu for 15 years nearly now. But ours rapidly went fron 6k a year to 11k without a claim. Farmers and mercantile did us a quote of sub 6k at the time. NFU dismissed it as not an equal quote so I sent it in, they then offered to match it, but by then as they would offer nothing back for past 2 years of over pricing I'd made my mind up to walk away. Now with Acres who are also brokers, lost combine through fire this year unfortunately, they worked hard to sort it and insurers paid out insured value within 2 weeks... only claim I had with nfu took 7 months to settle and only after a letter to ombudsman.

my father left the nfu 30 odd years ago we have never looked back
You must be very forgiving! Every time a post like this comes up I get a hot brow and look back and think "what a bunch of inefficient robbing swine... you owe me 2 boxes of biscuits, a bag of ground coffee, an apology and 12k of excessive premiums" all because you ballsed up on your new equine insurance and it cost you money... which we paid you out on

Not all insurers are having big inflation rises as i got offered the same
premium cost on our coffee van as last year.

Our farm premium was only up £100 on last year too. It seems some companies are trying it on because they can.

I didn’t change any values this year though, as I already lifted everything up last year. That may have increased premiums if folk were bringing replacement values up to date this year?

I got told i've done a good job of negotiating the price over
the last few years and they wont drop back from the 15% increase.
Otherside of the border fuw wanted to put ours up by over 17%, their loss as for the first time in years I've changed for a better deal. Might sharpen their pencil a bit for next time.

We left nfu 20 odd years ago, local group secretary was 25% dearer than a broker at the time, nfu have tried to quote the odd year hear and there since but their alway 20-25% dearer.
Whoever anyone is insured with though, it's worth phoning round even if it just make your existing broker stay on their toes.
Funny how little loyalty and integrity counts these days, I personally don't price check my guys as I think they are fair and on renewal very practical on all things plus what might need to be revalued, but we don't have online renewals, we have the man himself come to go through it himself which speaks mountains. For the past few years he's questioned our values on quite a few bits and have probably been undervaluing my kit in hindsight. Whatever the premium is don't scrimp on valuation guys, premium on farm kit is about £10 per £1000
