NH 6030 bent PTO stub

What is likely to cause this to happen. It's a tractor I am thinking of buying, could their be any other internal damage?

I somehow managed to leave half of the pto attached to the tractor then operated the PUH. When I lifted the hook it went up the open end of the shaft and bent the shaft and PTO stub . Had the tractor for years after that and can confirm luckily no damage was done to the tractor. I would take the stub out so you can check for damage on the tractor end then put a new stub in and make sure it locates nicely, spins freely by hand then engage PTO to make sure it spins true.
