Another nice one once the fog had cleared by lunch. Not drying that much though really but still early. Finished first N on wheat.

Then thought I might go and look at some Spring barley land, looked ok on top but after dropping the cultivator in and cutting 3" slots in plasticine for 10 yards I decided my time would be best used elsewhere.

Will try that again in a couple of weeks.

Going well. Drilled 35ac of spring barley today on some fairly sandy land which was soloed in autumn. Tomorrow should see the last fert spreading for a bit. Warm behind glass. Cant say it is drying very much but had to get some fert on the OSR so did and only made a small mess.

The OSR had 50kg 2 weeks ago as was worried if it rained I would leave some big wheelings. Wheats are all travelling really well but still some wet spots I thought would have gone by now but still tacky

I though the clays due for SB looked good then went for a play made some slots, blocked the packer solid in 15 yards and retired thoroughly beaten, I really should have spent more time drinking coffee :)

At least if we get this hot summer I won't have to worry about stuff droughting off :)

Some of the OSR tomorrow is getting it's first dose.....and is about waist high. Might be its only dose. I looked a fortnight ago and got some on one block of land before it rained again. At least after tomorrow that's the last spreading for a month.

I haven't got the shorts on yet but the long johns have come off!
Definite tingly feel to the face denotes the first layer of tan has started.
I'll have to get the hat on tomorrow. Ground hardening up a lot now. Wall to wall sunshine since Fri morning and I've been doing a bit of astronomy the last evenings even though the waxing gibbous moon is obstructing things rather.

And today I have spent the afternoon fighting moorland fires after the pyromaniacs in the next door common set the whole thing alight. When I gave up at 6.30 approx one third of my upper land was either alight or had been burned through. I don't know what my Glastir project officer is going to say when I ring him tomorrow morning. I called out the brigade but they had a traffic accident on the way here, so arrived too late to be of any use. It isn't even Friday the 13th either.

On Thursday 26th September, we’re holding a webinar for farmers to go through the guidance, actions and detail for the expanded Sustainable Farming Incentive (SFI) offer. This was planned for end of May, but had to be delayed due to the general election. We apologise about that.

Farming and Countryside Programme Director, Janet Hughes will be joined by policy leads working on SFI, and colleagues from the Rural Payment Agency and Catchment Sensitive Farming.

This webinar will be...
