Nice warm work jacket

A 'nice warm work jacket' is a bit of a contradiction in terms for me. Working will keep you warm. Our winter's generally aren't cold after all, unless halfway up a mountain in the highlands.

I just layer, starting with an old t-shirt or polo shirt, lightweight zip fleece with compliments of a supplier, topped off with a cheap breathable flexothane lined jacket from castle clothing. Optional free beanie hat from feed company, and nitrile gloves. Non safety Bekina steplites are moderately warm, without being sweaty. A pair of breathable flexothane legs for a tenner completes the outfit when it's wet, which will be at least every other day.

Seventy quid sorts me for the winter from head to toe. Last year's old coat hangs spare in front of the bulk tank condensor, along with the previous year's in second reserve.

Some expensive names mentioned here
Am I the only one who uses those yellow road workers coats. Cheap enough to have a few for when you get soaked and it hasn't dried properly for the next day.
I use army surplus coats, made with similar stuff to gortex so are waterproof, and you can get them for £30 new! So you can afford a few and put a dry one on every now and again if out lambing in rain or something. Put layers on if it's cold, fewer if it's warm

I have a Laksen shooting jacket. They cost a fortune but lovely coats, mine was 3rd hand before I got it and I have used it all day every winter for about 10 years. Fully waterproof too.

I understand not wanting to pay a lot for a work coat but I hate being wet or cold and I expect mine has worked out cheaper in the long run (especially as it was only £50)

+ 1 for these. Warm, light, waterproofish, chuck them in the washing machine when they get too smelly, lots of pockets, small sizes for little people and if I fall down a hole my neighbours can find me.

I pretty much live in my Ridgeline with just a wicking t shirt underneath. If it gets very cold I’ll put a thin thermal under jacket on.

Baseball cap and hood cope with most weathers. I’ve got an MVP surplus hat with ear flaps for extreme cold.

If it's cold - even very cold - and unless it is consistently p*ssing down I recommend a Buffalo Mountain Shirt, they don't even look used until about twelve years old and I have one that must be pushing thirty.

If it is consistently p*ssing down, :(… My Kaiwaka Stormforce trousers and jacket from Kiwikit are now in their second season and are the best waterproofs I have ever had. Even if it is nearly freezing, if I'm active I only wear thermals or shorts and a t-shirt in them.
