Hi our Nixon (Single phase) steam cleaner has started playing up.
Burner keeps running when lance is shut
any ideas ?
If you look on the pipe from the pump to the burner coil there will be a flow valve near the coil end probably where the flexi hose meets the steel pipe of the burner, will look something like this;
Flow Switches | Suttner America (google.co.uk)
This switch is probably stuck, if you are mechanically minded you can take it apart and clean it and it will probably fix it as it is only a simple magnetic switch (don't lose the magnet that sits inside it) or you can buy a new switch from the likes of Exchange Engineering, you will need an ST5 for horizontal mounting or an ST6 for vertical or horizontal mounting.
Or just ring Nixon.
If it was me I would lay money on it being sh!te in the flowswitch and open it up and clean it.

Does the load on the motor drop when you let go of the trigger? If so it’s the pressure switch on the pump or built into the unloader valve depending on age, if the lid on the motor increases and sounds like it’s struggling it will be the unloader valve no reliving the pressure keeping the burner going. Strip the unloader valve make sure everything is free, I had bits of pump o ring in mine causing this very issue. The unloader valve must be set correctly when re installing, it should pull no more than 14amps when the trigger is pulled, has to be measured with clamp meter around the positive wire on the plug.

been through all this just recently! Don’t do as I did and electrocute yourself!!
