No-Till / Zero Till / Direct Drill

Does anyone know what percentage of farms in the UK are currently using direct drilling? Are there any good reports or good data sources on this?

No-one knows for certain, it's not one of the questions that they ask in the census forms which we occasionally have to fill in. They ought to ask it...a lot more interesting than half the questions they pester us with.
I've got a figure of 11% of arable land being direct-drilled. Driving about the place at drilling time, that seems absurdly high: there seems to be a lot of recreational cultivating still going on. But sales of no-till drills are increasing and more and more are available. People are getting the message...

All conventional establishment here (plough, unipress, combi drill) but considering moving to a strip till system (sumo dts or Mzuri) what are the potential pitfalls? Is it all it’s cracked up to be? Cost savings are not in doubt. Should I or shouldn’t I [emoji848]???

get a claydon if you are gonna go to a strip drill.. sell your plough and combi don't grow continuous cereals.. do lots of reading and listening before you make the jump and you will do just fine
