Anyone get a letter of offer for the grant scheme.

seems to be a significant number of people have applied for a grant of only 20% to try and maximise their points. Irony being by the time they get their tanker etc the price will have gone up by more than the value of the grant!

I got my letter of offer and guilty as charged, I took the 20% off to get me as many points because I do not have a #farming Qualification#.

Reason being, at the time of application there was only half the money being made available so you needed to up your points to have any chance of success. Now the way the whole thing was organized in my opinion was a disgrace, that 20% thing shouldn't have been an option, and actual funding should have been finalised before application (but it is nice to see extra money being made available and the sector being supported). I needed a slurry tanker anyways, I am now going to get one with a dribble bar for around 20,000 so still worth it in my opinion. Don't hate the player, hate the game.

Any idea what sort of price rise a tanker has taken since steel price went up? A fairly standard 2500gallon tanker was between 15-15.5k before Christmas.

Yep. I'm a 20% person too, because of a policy of ageism. I seriously don't know how that can be legal.

but ageism to degree is everywhere. Get on a bus children and pensioners will pay a different price to yourself for the same seat. Travel cards for young adults for discounts. Free tv licenses for older folk. B&q give oaps discount on a certain morning.

overall young people need to be encouraged to stay or enter farming and continue to invest.

However the system is flawed pitting one farmer against the other. Have criteria. Either a limited number getting 40% or somehow just split the pot?

yes you’ll get 20% the original guide price, I’ve no problem with anyone. My point is for many they’d probably been better off just buying the thing at the end of last summer! In hindsight I wish I had. For clarity I’ve got a grant letter too.
