Silage depleted, slurry bunged and ground conditions Can only be described as horrific. Where is the get out on this one?

2 blowing dry days and you wouldn't know the place. Just when those 2 days come is another question.

Anyone hear any prices of what good pit silage is making?

I sold approx 400t of decent quality silage at £34 per tonne if that’s of any help to you. They collected it at that.

I know you're right , however it's been a long run from July last year , it wears you down . I won't be in this position another year .

What will you do differently to prevent it?

East down and parts of Antrim to get another good soak tonight. We’ve had 44mm since Sunday morning and supposed to get another inch tonight. It’ll hopefully dry up shortly.

Funny up here in the north west we've only had 40mm for the whole month of March. Ground still absolutely soaking mind. Bring on the April heatwave they're talking about.

Reducing numbers and increasing my off farm work.

Most days, I also wonder where it all goes to. No wonder there is flooding in strange places

I'm working in Dublin at the minute and not near as much rain up here. When I'm heading home in the evening I can just see the dark clouds the nearer I get to the border. Getting sick of it by this stage

Last night and still it's really tipping it down, we had a river down our lane this morning and my gauge is when water runs out the field beside our lane it's a lot . It was running past the lane like a river as well as down the lane .

Just over 2 inches of rain since Saturday. Snow this morning. I would say we’re a drier part of the country in south down. How’s Fermanagh getting on ? Lots of neighbours starting to look for extra but non existent silage and straw.

There’s 650’s on her, we’ve a set of 1050’s we use for sowing

Probably right thing to do, if ground conditions allow. Fields are a bit greener. I could sow on some ground, (I’ll probably spread slurry on it to get rid of a few load) but heavier ground is still in pretty bad condition.

Ground should be OK for a tractor and sower, I'm hoping to slurry, dried well today so will do a quick pitch inspection in the morning.

I see the the settled first half to April has disappeared, and there's now talk of a wetter than average month.
