Lots of grass to cut around here but I don't think we got the same rain you boys further north got. Ground conditions still ok.

Must be something easier to do than this every summer. Wet in the nw,dry in the se. Never changes

Plenty of 3rd cut in these parts to do yet and a fair bit of spring crop silage/wholecrop. Itll have to dry bravely before they're harvested for no one wants to make a hash of reseeds. Running out of dry land in the rotation here so I'm gonna house cows till this rain leaves. If it leaves..

All milkers in today. Lashing here all last night and still going this morning.

20 acres of 3rd cut to do here but would be ok for a couple of weeks yet. A lot of men still have 2nd to finish, talking to contractor yesterday says he hasn't cut a sward for 3 weeks now.
Milkers still out (just) gonna dry off a few extra early to see if I can keep the rest out as long as possible. Cant help feeling that if they come in now that'll be it for the winter.
On the plus side in tanker driver news, the word is that supply is dropping like a stone, he is already down from 3 to 2 loads/ day and reckons he could put it into 3 loads every other day.

Cows out today, back fenced, into back of driest paddock.

22 acres of 3rd cut and 23 acres of spring undersowen whole crop left to do.

50 round bales bought from neighbour with some possibility of more to come. Rather buy now and have surplus in April, than be looking for it in April.

In for a hot shower...wellies stuck in mud when bringing cows in at lunchtime....I fell in a heap! Cows were stood in a ball with nowhere dry to lie down. The way they ate the round bales you would have swore it was October.

Mate had cows in at night all year, now in day and night but only eating 3 extra bales on top of the 9th they ate at night. Hardly worth tramping the ground for!

It begs the question, why do you milk cows. Certainly not the hours,the money. I'm like a chap in prison for 30 years.im institutionalised. Never change. On we go. I miss the sun

You're better not thinking too hard about things like that. Just keep telling yourself your living the dream.

Although the notions some people have about milking, and the old "licence to print money" jibe makes me laugh. Could count about 10 or 15 men in the vacinity who've went to Scotland to "go into the milk." None stuck it.

Was it 2012/13 that was a bad long winter too. Slow spring saw silage in short supply and very expensive?

Cows where out early too spring 2013 but grass was slow in coming.
Our cows where our by day 2 months before they where our at night(usually 4 weeks)
