Most of my silage ground is miles away. At least you think it's a nice idea. Only works here as my best ground is near the parlour and I have a small herd. I feel it's my best option here but no two farms the same. Most years I don't sow nitrogen before the cows go out to help keep them on top of the grass. Normally I keep young stock in till the night's warm up abit. The sun doesn't always shine up here either!

Depends on the winter, but I personally think sheep grazing benefits the ground and grass quality. Just make sure they don't stay on too long!

Could the NI forum followers keep the mainland producers informed over the summer of movements in the republic as you get news of it in the north .. Regarding milk quality, you'll have to either find out what an Irish company's base is, or just take a guess. The best thing you can take from it is probably the direction of travel from month to month.
Regarding VAT, my understanding is that you take off roughly 5% for easy counting. Small farms which aren't vat registered obviously don't have to pay the vat back, larger ones should do.

My crystal ball reckons milk will bump along at around this level til the end of the Summer. Wouldn't want to forecast further as too many variables. Maybe go up 1p or down 1p but should be fairly stable. Anyone else have any thoughts?
