Stock were noticably cheaper today in Dungannon. Everyone I spoke to said it was due to big tax bills due now. Am I correct in thinking that agriculture is in the unique position that we can pay tax on the average of two years income? So as 22/23 was a great year for dairying, 23/24 is equally going to be a crap year for dairying. I could ask the accountant but scared he'll ask for more paperwork. I hate paperwork.

Accountant should be doing this automatically over five years to make the most efficient use of the system. You don't need to provide anything extra. He's already got everything from previous years, assuming you use the same one.

Wee plain heifers, supposed to be doing 25 litres , were around the 1200 mark. Good strong heifers with good components around the 1600 mark. There were some who made over 2 but I don't know why. A lot of red heifers. I don't buy in Dungannon. I hate paying guineas.

Just watched the tail end of ballymena on tinternet, 1400 was the top I saw but only saw the last half dozen and not easy to see what they were like on the phone.

That is realistic prices. The dairy sector is in a very poor financial state ATM. It’ll be the summer time before farms find their feet again I reckon.

Not sure you could rear them for it.
With sexed semen a t 65 euro a straw you defnitely wouldnt !!
Good high EBI feb calving heifers from a reptubale herd struggled to cross a thousand .
Seems to be the run of it across the south.
Pockets are lighter and maybe farmers are cautious given the costs are remaining stubbornly high and its still jam tomorrow regarding milk price ...

There was a few pics in the Journal this week from Kilmalock. Not big money for springers by the looks but maybe the Nitrates changes are effecting things

Tirlan had an online information meeting during the week, and they are claiming that in relation to southern milk price, as they put, "that it won't be long until the milk price starts with a 4"
Local rep apparently saying that they'll soon be top payers again in NI

Time will tell

With the exchange rate at .86 , 40 cents is 34.4p. I'm not getting overly excited at that.

The southern sexed bulls are always significantly more expensive than other offerings in catalogues here. Is there a reason?
