Novel about Sheep on moorland / grass border

Thats interesting. I'm Sheffield based.

Surprised to hear about the company-owned moorland - wouldn't have expected their interest in rewilding. Which company and why?

I'll get researching!

The glass company lets the grazier farm the land, providing they pay rent of course. Although grouse are very important, very expensive to shoot grouse. Where I live game birds are reared & released & sometimes annoy tenants (some tenants like them) because they damage cereal crops. On the moors the grouse are totally wild birds the game keepers just create the right enviroment & the farmers like them. This is because sheep & grouse both thrive on heather & are both predated on by foxes & crows.

Its the council, water board, Natural trust land that is been rewilded. Often subisdy aided, the farmers have been well compensated but when it goes wrong, it can go really wrong with lots of bracken, gorse & is a dreadful fire risk.

Thanks, that'd be awesome. As long as the photos aren't of lambs drowning themselves in water buckets (Or was there another method of choice)?

What predators? Much trouble with dogs?
Fox, Badger, Crows, Ravens bit of dog problem but not as bad as some, Crows and Ravens are the worst by far, but if you get a rouge fox or badger they will take a lot in a short time, hence only lamb singles on the hill.

Thank you Old Tip. Wow - that's beautiful. I'm much happier for the safety of my hypothetical lambs on the ridge now.

What happens in a raven vs lamb encounter? Are we talking, lamb loose eyes and also damaged around any wounds?

Is there anything you can do to control them?
