Oil boiler

I have an old oil boiler in the house, I heat the house with the log burner, but have the boiler on (combi boiler) to heat the water. I think the boiler has reached the end of it's useful life, should I replace it with a combi boiler or a regular boiler and fit an immersion heater and tank. Bearing in mind, a good 90% of the house heating is wood burner? Plumber said fit another combi boiler as it is cheaper to heat the water with oil than electric.

Depends on your age somewhat, if you're under say 55 then having all heating by wood is ok but if say 65 will you want to or be able to use wood in 15 years time, oil heating is easy if more expensive, which knows in five years time which will be cheaper oil or electric, immersion heaters easy to change than a boiler but slower to heat water than oil.
We have a new combi to fit when I get round to it as the current one is 15 years old and getting a few problems, we do have a log burner that runs most days in winter, nothing like a real fire and if you lose the electricity you can still be warm and make a cuppa.

We have an outdoor oil boiler with a HW tank fitted with an immersion heater (due to water pressure a combi isn't practical). We very rarely use the immersion as it is more expensive but just have the boiler to do the HW in the summer. We also have wood burners so don't use the CH much. I guess if you have a combi already I would replace like for like rather than spending out more on a tank etc.

is it more efficient to use a combi boiler to heat the water than an immersion heater, using the oil boiler for over 6 months of the year just to heat water?

Our boiler heats the house and the hot water (we have a tank with a backup electric heater we have switched off and never used yet).

During the summer our boiler turns on (driven by thermostat/timer controller) once in the morning and once in the evening. It uses a tiny amount of oil in the summer months as heating the hot water tank is childsplay for it. Unless the central heating is on, the oil gauge won't even move, month to month, so we don't order any fuel once the central heating is turned off in the spring.
