Oil question.

Afternoon all just a small question running a MF6180 and a Renault 620. Can I use the same oils in them for the engine and a different one for the back end rather than having oils for each?
As far as I know the 620 back end is the same as the 6180!

Any suggestions greatly appreciated as always.

Yes you could, a Super Universal oil SUTTO , would be good enough for the engines and transmissions, but there are much better specd engine oils available, with longer drain life etc. Or have I misread? Could your two different branded tractors share the same transmission oil, and engine oil? Yes I would say

You want to use 15/40 engine oil in both tractors , and a stou 10/30 in the rear, using 10/30 universal in the engine is a bit thin and I find it will burn oil under hard work

Just to avoid confusion. Super Universal Tractor Oil [SUTO] is the same but different name for Super Tractor Oil Universal [STOU]. One T!
This is suitable, in 10W30 viscosity, for most wet clutch and brake transmissions including power-shifters. Also for most engines up to around 2005, and maybe later depending on the specification of oil and engine matching.

Then there is Universal Tractor Transmission Oil [UTTO]. Two T's
This is suitable for the same use in transmissions but on no account should it be used in any engine, ever.

Regarding the two tractors in the OP. Any SUTO/STOU would be fine for all reservoirs apart from possibly the front axle epicyclic hubs. In fact it is fine for those as well as long as it doesn't leak out of the seals, even though it might specify EP90 or something similar for them.

Whether the engine burns 10w/30 SUTO depends on the condition of the engine. It shouldn't consume any more than 15w/40 if in good condition and as long as the oil is changed at every 300 hours of normal duty running. John Deere did fit ridiculously small capacity sumps at one time in the 70's and 80's and those engines required 100 to 150 hour oil changes purely because they held so little oil. So check the recommended interval for the Renault just in case.

Can you use UTTO in say an older mower gearbox instead of EP90? Would that avoid issues like GL4 or GL5?

I would not use it in a right angle gearbox such as a mower's. However it is probably suitable for many mower beds. Still check its book in case it says not to use it specifically in the bed for some reason. I know that Kuhn beds, for instance, need light viscosity oil such as UTTO but don't remember whether there are any caveats that prevent friction modified oil such as SUTO or UTTO being used.
