Old fence posts

evening all,

Just a quick question, I’m currently doing a fair bit of fencing for a farm, they were supposed to get all the old posts out and clear up ready for me to the new up.
Only they’ve left the old posts in so I can reuse them, (there not upright or in the right line) I’m Having to pull the out and use some where else, I don’t mind doing it but I’m not earning when doing it so
What would I be charging for pulling them out etc?

The same /hour that you earn putting fences up as that is the opportunity cost your missing out on.

And then double it for them being dicks and making you re use old posts unless they are physically unable to do so then bit of grace comes in.

If we’re reusing here they go in a pile or are put out for him to be used as struts.
Or if the fence is good and posts gone my guy starts drilling and will strip posts off whilsts he is waiting within the price of the man and tractor as he doesn’t want to just sit there and twiddle his thumbs

If your there with your machinery that you charge out at £30 an hour then that's what you charge for clearing up the old stuff.
Similar to muck spreading. Charge full price whilst cutting string and net off the rotors;)

Old wire and fence posts isn't worth the labour messing about with - I just rip them out with the 360, roll into a ball - tamp it down, burn it and weigh the scrap in.

I can rip out and roll up 100metres in 10 to 15 minutes easily. If you get the angle right the staples stay in the posts and can be picked up after the burn.

On Thursday 26th September, we’re holding a webinar for farmers to go through the guidance, actions and detail for the expanded Sustainable Farming Incentive (SFI) offer. This was planned for end of May, but had to be delayed due to the general election. We apologise about that.

Farming and Countryside Programme Director, Janet Hughes will be joined by policy leads working on SFI, and colleagues from the Rural Payment Agency and Catchment Sensitive Farming.

This webinar will be...
