When drainage cos shut or are taken over, and idea what they do with their archives? I've a field drained by James Richmond Ltd, but only have the proposal plan rather than the "as laid down" plan which would be really helpful!

Anyone know if they amalgamated with anyone?

I don't find the "as laid down" plans particularly accurate tbh.
What I do find very useful is aerial pictures of the land. Have you tried Google Earth and wind back the time, shows a lot of drains on my land according to the season. Using various other maps/satellite images helps ie Bing, Magic, DaftLogic etc.

Yes, neither handy. I have the previous drainage scheme plan, and the secondary, modern system. However after a few days in the ditch there seems to be a third system.

The main issue stems from a WPGS wood planted on top of the headland drains for both systems. I've got the ticket to remove up to 1/3 of the trees but really a new headland drain picking up everything would be better.......or fell the whole wood.

I like the as laid as they often mark stuff they have found. It's likely the tree roots aren't very deep, so with some luck I can dig out the joints and jet them all for starters.

Ever seen hand built land drains, underground, built rather like a tepee, with a flat stone on the bottom and two standing upright on their edge, set offset so the two top points don't actually touch? Found such a drain many years ago that was feeding an old pond. Luckily it never blocked as impossible to rod.
