Old thorn stuck in leg

I think I know the answer already but I had a hawthorn go straight in my leg just above the knee about three months ago. I did at the time give it some hassle to get most of it out and assumed the deepest point would puss out eventually. Trouble is I forgot about it and now it has healed over and looks like a kind of wart that is painful when lent on or clouted.

I am guessing I am going to have to dig, best option I can think of is to keep slicing with a syringe needle every now and then till I get to it, it's gonna be deep! Or go get some adrenacaine and get it in one shot.

What do you think?

.Seriously , though i had one in my arm that had healed over for 6 months or so, forgot all about it until i banged my arm whilst fencing and it just popped out through the skin and the little lump that had been there gradually went away with no lasting affect.
It ought to come out now. go to Doc/nurse and let them cut it out with a scalpel.

I had a hawthorn go into my finger at the knuckle and it was too painful to go digging for it. That was 1979. Three years ago it came to the surface and I was able to pop it out. I stuck a piece of Selotape over it and stuck it to the page in my diary with an explanation of what it was. It was still perfectly sharp and about 4mm long. 34 years :woot:

So who the hell am I to tell you to go to the quack

No, I've had them try and cut stitches out with scissors that look like this!:

I would see someone a bit brighter than that but the chances of finding them are seriously slim. Vet perhaps? I bet adrencaine hurts like buggery, had a ring block once on my finger and needed some holding down! Feck that hurt!

I bet it didn't hurt half as much as a blocked ring

Seems like it was pickled ........:)

Ran one up beside my thumbnail once. Best part of an inch of the thorn went in and the tip broke off of pulling out. :hungover:
Was in there for a good three months. Every few days I'd squeezed where the thorn went in and often puss would come out. Eventually the remaining part of the thorn came out with some puss.

Made me wonder if I could burn it out with a red hot blob of mig wire. Come to think of it there's a scar next to it from the torch sliding off something onto my leg....ouch!..perhaps not.

Men:rolleyes::rolleyes:, just watch out for any complications :cautious: I assume that the thorn has walled itself off and is not causing any problems other than some pain or it would be red and festering:eek: There are certain ointments / treatments that will 'draw' out a thorn, boil etc. so it may be worth talking to your local pharmacist about what to do next.

Good luck and make sure that if you start to get any signs of an infection radiating from the wound site that you go straight to the doctor for a/b's.

No need for doc, pen strep or alymicin spray
