Old Tractor for Logsplitter

I think the Leyland has higher flow and pressure than the Major. The Leyland will work a splitter just fine and will have an independant tipping pipe. Just need to add a return port which is easy to do. The Major is less likely to have a seperate tipping pipe (a rarity on these) and the lift arms need to be fully raised to put pressure to an auxiliary service. Can be made to work if the splitter is free standing. A Super Major would be different though.
My home made splitter lives on a Nuffield and it works just fine.

Yes, I've seen a splitter working on a Major and to be fair it wasn't too slow, but I've never seen a Leyland in action. The Leyland is basically an upgraded Nuffield so will probably go with that, and it's cheaper!

Here's a POWER MAJOR:
Pressure:2200 psi [151.7 bar]
Pump flow:5.65 gpm [21.4 lpm]

A SUPER Major bumps the flow to 6gpm.

A 384 is: 7.8 gpm [29.5 lpm] (guessing over 2,500PSI) and a more advanced tractor.

The advantage of a pto powered pump is speed and being able to idle the engine back to a smooth quiet speed and still have great performance on the splitter, especially with a two stage log splitter pump. Either tractor will split wood fine if you don't mind the speed, you have to have time to move the logs anyway.

Screw type are no more dangerous than a bodged farm hydraulic splitter, and most of the factory made ones get the safety features disabled from what I've seen. Screws are much much faster too.

Is the tractor needed for 3pt linkage and or pto work? Thinking perhaps one of the old tractor based industrial loaders would have a higher hydraulic output. Perhaps even mount the splitter on the back and still have a handy loader.
