How much time and effort does it take to complete an application and have you guys generally done it alone or enlisted help from agronomist or advisor.?
With regards to the Arable offer one thing that has put me off a bit is only being allowed to cut 50% of hedges annually that are on or bordering agreement land (under general scheme requirements) As I usually cut all ours each year.
This rule isn’t made clear on the face of it as I thought that you basically picked at least one option out of 2 from category 1, category 2 option compulsory and at least one from category 3. And could choose to leave out hedges altogether.? Confused .com Is there anything not made clear on the face of it. TIA

Hedges 50% per year I’m afraid unless next to footpaths or roads. I did it myself.

The hedge rule puts me ( or my father at least) off . Does leaving a hedge for 2 years really benefit wildlife. Hedge is a right mess after the 2nd year cutting. Maybe a better rul would be that the hedges can't be cut until Feb at the earliest. At least at would leave the berries for the birds.
I've entered the scheme but I've picked fields with very few / poor hedges or roadside hedges that can still be cut.

Thanks for your replies.
Still don’t know wether to apply or not. I’ve download application, but only got a month left to apply.
Why didn’t they put the hedge requirement in a compulsory option rather than hidden in the back ground ?
So basically it is only on the land which you need for your options and not your complete holding.?
I will have to weigh up if it is worth the time, paper work and if it will be of benefit to wildlife while at the same time not looking like a bloody mess.!

Have you taken any land out of production from last autumn?
