Openreach tree cutting

Returned home this evening to find a young beech destroyed by the removal one complete side. The limb that was removed must be 12" diameter. So annoying as we can't cut hedges in closed periods because of nesting birds which I agree with.....but they can come along in summer and do this. Openreach are on installing fibre and had installed two new poles. I believe 1m is needed to trim branches around the cable but this is just beyond a joke! Who do I contact to lodge a complaint.... Wonder if anyone can point me in the correct direction.

They are a law unto them selves.had a lot of hedging removed round a pole last wintertime and they just done it without asking.i stuck a round of f**ks into em but too late then.at least uk powernetworks visit and discuss before trimming but I’ve found their staff riding round margins and doing what they want and not chipping cuttings and leaving piles of stuff for me to clear up.

The telegraph pole outside our house was replaced by an Openreach sub contractor without damaging any of the neighbouring trees, they carefully threaded the cable through and around the nearest branches. A work of art.

I took to Twitter with an issue with WPD contractors who wouldn't answer phone.

I don't do utilty cutting, but these companies doing this have rules and regs, so much so. I worked for one a few years ago, and a video was taken and given to the utility provider, and as the operator was using a long handled pole saw (which is not allowed) the company had to stand down, for 6 months awaiting an investigation.

With regards the tree, have you solid evidence, ie the tree before and after? Was the debris removed or left there in the ditch? Its def worth making some noise, even on social media. I often find, large bodies are well within their rights to remove trees, but they will thread carefully when it comes to social media and the backlash that it follows.

Ohh most utility companies that do poles and cables , often carry saws etc, but those using it are often not qualified, or do not have proper PE.

Just for balance: in NZ the landowner is liable for trees near power and utility lines. If you don't manage them yourself they can do it and bill you.

Have a branch hanging down on a road hedge on to a bt cable
Rang openreach and the man on the other end asked if the branch lying on the cable was still attached to the tree
I replied that it had split but there was still attachment to the tree
To which he replied
Nothing to do with us
Ring the council and they will send a tree surgeon

Openreach put a new fibre under and through my roadside trees for a mile. Lots of branches touching now and line been broken by falling limbs. No bill yet I presume because trees there first.

Around here the Western Power are responsible for power lines and they employ private tree surgeon companies to trim. Telecom don't trim
