Organic fly control

Hi, how do you organically control flies? The conventional fly pours don’t seem to work and I can’t stand another milking being suffocated with fly spray!!

Garlic licks but start feeding 2 months before you see flies apparently.
Strong Fans will work wonders.
All else fails just get a derogation for a spot on type product.

Go hard and go early, bit to late now though. fly pour here half rate every 4 weeks from beginning of May.
All youngstock done at turnout heifers also get fly tags and then everything re done either every eight weeks or when ever they come through the race.

Fans,, water curtains, my relief swears by sticky string over cows backs and in collecting yard,but I've not tried string . Treat walls and ceilings with fly spray etc.

Used to have a diesel soaked hessian sack dangled over the entrance of the old abrest parlour, did the job brilliantly.

We have fans up but there seems to be spots that they miss and it’s a mass of flies

Change your milking times to milk after tea. flys dont seem to bother them then

Leave cows in collecting yard for 20 minutes before milking, flies have their feed then buzz off

If its any consolation the flies are very bad over here. Been flat out with pour on and even made a fly barrel to try out. Been talking to loads of people losing quarters on dry cows, sucklers and in calf heifers. I tried garlic and didn't seem to make any difference.

We’re on second year of buying micro wasp flies that eat the big flies. Difficult to be sure but seems to work especially round the buildings.
Also water mist on parlour entrance helps milking

For a number of years we have been utilising fly parasites as part of our fly control protocols to build a sustainable reduction in fly population on farm.

Fairly effective round the yard but not sure how to control flies in fields when the herd gathers under trees etc. Probably try making a few traps like the previous video to go round Water troughs

If you make some, strap them to pallets. Easy to move and less likely to blow over. You could also bodge an electric fence around the trap with a croc clip to link to fence. Try a nice ripe leg of badger to get things going. Good luck!

some of the generic fly deterrents don't last as long as spot on, might be 1/2 price, but only last 1/2 as long !!!!!
