We put toprex on one field of ours last week, never used a growth reg on rape before but this field loves to go flat whatever the crop and it's looking really well so will see what effect it has.

If I get a moment I will take a look in my archives - think it was late 90s, possibly at Morley and elsewhere chlormequat was tried. ARC I am sure did some trial - Fromebridge would know.
CCC was approved on OSR, then it wasn't, then it was, then (now) it isn't. From memory it didn't pull up any trees, not as effective as teb or met. Was a cheap option for those who just wanted to say they'd put a PGR on, e.g. to keep the combine driver happy.

This is the crop, pigeons started on it about a month ago, but not too bad.

30 units of n beginning of feb to wake it up to keep pigeons off and 50 units of sulphur. Agronomist recommended Toprex. Anyone had any results from this before.

Looks very thick, but good to see the whole field is all there. I would keep total N @ 190kg/ha max. Personally I find Caryx very expensive and in my own trials haven’t noticed any difference between treated and not.

Ime have found Caryx to work on strong osr coming out of winter.
Tramline trials showed visible effects, and visiblely taller where not applied. Same area was fair leaning come harvest, tho still standing just

If you can get hold of someone with a fert spinner on a demount sprayer body, I'd not put any more n on now, and put the last dose on as late as they can get through the crop without the discs cutting the heads off. Certainly doesn't need much encouragement now.

How angry a crop would have you reaching for Caryx?
Ours went flat in places last year. No growth regulator. Looked a lot angrier than that.

I've growth regulator to go on ours in next few weeks. Will get a picture of it for you.

Ours was ridiculous height last year. Was a nightmare to combine. But did do 2.2t/acre. Was 1st year I've grown osr. Will be down hill from there!

That looks like it has decent sized plants, but not overly thick. And your down south so probably ten days ahead of us. In my experience it's the thin stemmed, 10kg fss crops that lodge more readily. I'd be thinking of how to reduce stem splitting from fast growing crops, so would be looking at my soil analysis.

If going with AN for last nitrogen, you can always delay that if concerned. Assuming it's not full of bugs I'd not be bothered.

Does this warrant Caryx or can I get away with a good whack of Teb instead? Moving quick and perhaps too late to get full use from Caryx? Could be another week before can get anything on.

@Jerry How is you monster osr looking now?

In middle of lambing so not seen it fur a couple weeks. Hopefully go look at end of week.

Just nipped over to look at it. Not had any N yet. Just poly sulphate.

Hope to have time to get some N on end of the week.

it’s about knee high with some plants mid thigh.

On Thursday 26th September, we’re holding a webinar for farmers to go through the guidance, actions and detail for the expanded Sustainable Farming Incentive (SFI) offer. This was planned for end of May, but had to be delayed due to the general election. We apologise about that.
