Not using a Claydon anymore? Looks goodAspire sown on 15th September with a Grange strip till. End of August/early September was the best spell of weather 2023 could offer up! Warm soils and a dash of rain but not too much
Trust me I’ve had my share of crap with rape lost 70 percent of my rape area last yr, I find sowing 1st week of august following muck is the key, first yr back with a hybrid which seems to be suited to early sowing low seed rate more room for bushy plants. Who knows tho it’s all a gamble. I’m lucky this yr so far.

Thanks, was looking at Bassitrel and Teb at PGR rate for next week if we ever get a dry day !Tissue test. I used to find boron levels in the plant consistently low about now in chalky soils. About 2 litres/ha Solubor 25% should do it and it's not expensive. Split it if you like - B isn't particularly mobile in the plant.
Molybdenum and boron went on with PGR on my osr this week.
Id apply on a crop that looked like that. Its not expensive and that looks like it wants treating well. What’s peoples thoughts on Boron and application rates ? I’ve not applied it for years but have some decent crops this year so am looking at it again
Calcereous soils so should be worth applying??View attachment 1167309
PGR we need PGA here )Plant growth accelerator.)Tissue test. I used to find boron levels in the plant consistently low about now in chalky soils. About 2 litres/ha Solubor 25% should do it and it's not expensive. Split it if you like - B isn't particularly mobile in the plant.

That’s a fantastic looking crop
Thanks. OSR seems to suit our land for some reason. That’s a fantastic looking crop
That’s certainly a very good reasonThanks. OSR seems to suit our land for some reason.
Think it's maybe because it's first time it's grown it.
They are up here. Have had fields of stubble turnips wiped out by them. We've always spread cattle muck on before OSR . Then established with min till so muck still on surface. Hopefully that acts as a deterrent. That’s certainly a very good reason
And I assume a Flea beetle is still a mythical creature in your distant northern part of the world ??
It does to a point, but when they hit hard it makes no difference I thinkThey are up here. Have had fields of stubble turnips wiped out by them. We've always spread cattle muck on before OSR . Then established with min till so muck still on surface. Hopefully that acts as a deterrent.
that didn't work here this year! They are up here. Have had fields of stubble turnips wiped out by them. We've always spread cattle muck on before OSR . Then established with min till so muck still on surface. Hopefully that acts as a deterrent.
I like your optimism that there may be a spray day next week !!View attachment 1167472This is having teb and boron next week.
Well got all the crops fert on this week, got to keep snatching opportunities, this osr is all on river gravels so travels really well even after prolonged rain.I like your optimism that there may be a spray day next week !!
