generally disapointing, but i have to say the one for me which has bucked the trend is campus.

i feel we are seeing verticilium wilt as the main culprit, although signs on the stem are minimal, the stems are totally dead, where as campus which is renowned for coping best with verticilium is out yielding everything else by a tonne or is it just coincidence

Don't know yet mine is still a day or two away from the combine ,,,,,, still hopeful of decent yields as we have still green stems from the canopy to the ground

Vista is my variety, will be disappointed if main block doesn't do 35cwt and another smaller block 30cwt ,,,,, time will tell

All varieties here rubbish. Campus no better really. Nothing under tonne an acre yet but not much over.
Worst year we have had by a huge margin (including year we were hit by hail).
Seems I am not alone locally with everyone I have spoken to hugely disappointed. Ones I have spoken to as low as 400kg acre and highest 1.25t acre

When we did the yield plateau project for HGCA one of the factors for decent rape yield was a dry April, assumed because wet weather suppressed insect activity which then affected pollination. Whatever the weather this spring, there's certainly still no insects around here. Haven't seen more than one butterfly at a time, even with buddleia fully out. I look round our garden and see hardly any insects, it's been the same all year.

Have they gone the way of Douglas Adams's dolphins ?

Only just had a nibble at my rape just now ,,,, yield meter seemed to be running around the 33 cwt mark but by no means a figure to be relied on yet , but seed looks okay , just a bit to high moisture ,,,,,, either dew or not quite fit , will know by midday ,,,, but most of mine wasn't planted till beginning of sept ,,,,,and thus was latter flowering than my neighbours , maybe my tardiness has payed of this year

In a bit better bit now annoyingly we did everything on it and it was treated within a day with same chemical. But 8 miles apart. Less csfb pressure.
Ours has lots of stems like this
