overloading

Does it not record how fast it has been going?

The tankers I drove had a monitoring system that recorded everything overspeeds, harsh braking, cornering excessive idle etc.
When they were first installed we were getting in trouble all the time for speed, turned out the trucks were set for a true 90 kph which meant the speedo read 93 ish which was recorded as over. Had to get Scania in to recalibrate the speedos.
Any harsh braking, overspeeds etc and the shift manager was automatically emailed and the driver was in the office.

It's not an excuse as most of the time it's clear when you're overloaded but is there not something about an exemption from weight if you are hauling material direct from a field?

Yes, there is an exemption used for running overweight from the field, it’s the “ it’ll be alright as long as you don’t get caught” clause.(y)

And I’m sure it’s not clear to many when they’re overloaded.
I just googled the spec of a well known brand 20 ton tri axle grain trailer to see how much it weighs, unfortunately the weight isn’t listed in the specs but I suspect to run legally on the road it couldn’t run at much more than half capacity.

Gotta be 6-7 tons unladen if not plus!

*Edit our 16t AW is 5.7 tons “approx” so the above could be more!

i believe if trucks were weighted on their way from a quarry (say) without weighing facilities then there was some leeway.
However, for trucks, that may have changed as so many have weighloaders fitted now.
It also would not apply if you were grossly overloaded. I think the leeway was less than1000 kgs, as a driver should have a good idea the weight in the back.

.......If your making your way to the nearest public weighbridge.
Don't know if that would apply to ag vehicles.
Or even if the nearest public bridge is at the point of delivery.

Been leading a bit of barely this week with a case puma 165 with bailey 14 ton trailer
Empty it’s about 14.5 tons
Full it’s 27-28 tons if you went up to a 16 ton trailer your probably over the limits with the extra weight of the trailer plus the increased capacity . Then you’d probably want a few more ponies which will add extra weight .
As far as I can tell max trailer weigh is 18.29 tons

American roads tend to be a bit more than a single track with high hedges either side !

Which is exactly my point with regards to the stupid comments re why do manufacturers make them that big. It's a global market.

Plus people know the rule re weight so don't buy the biggest trailer they can when they know it cannot legally be used full on the road. Saying manufacturers should only build them so big because people can control themselves around the law. Same could be said about 50/60k tractors
